Curtis Canyon is another favorite of Kevin's and another place I have never been. So with the excuse of Lucy's birthday, we headed up to this new family favorite. To get there you head down the backside of the Elk Refuge, on what can I only assume to be named Elk refuge Road. Eventually it will take a sharp left where it appears to end in a housing area. Follow this until you see a sign that says Curtis Canyon Camp Ground, take that right and follow it up and around. Keep going past the Curtis Canyon camp ground and take the left had fork for Sheep Gulch, (right is to a lake but I have plumb forgotton the name ) Keep on going for about an hour and our campsite was through a small clearing on the peak of a hill and tucked back in the trees. It was a heavily used campsite, and judging by our fellow campers, who camped on the hillside above us, used by that of the recreational sort. Anyway the sight was nice, we spent most of the weekend tidying up while we were at camp. A note to all campers, the out of doors is not a dumpster, take everything you bring with you home. As I was saying we cleaned out the fire ring and collected bags of trash and debris such as a shoe, towel, tons of bottles and cans, and other unsightly human junk . We took a few hikes on old, closed camp drives. Small dirt paths that lead to what once were open campsites. We did about 4 of these and then explored all the dirt trails around our site. The best part of this camp was our family birthday party for Lulu with a double chocolate birthday cake with a stick and sap candle. Fantastic place to camp with amazing valley views.
