I am a local girl who lives in a tourist town, an expensive tourist town. This is my attempt at finding and discovering family and budget friendly Jackson Hole experiences that can keep my family happy, my wallet full and my time well spent. Let the adventures begin...

I have been up Cache Creek before, and by 'been up' I mean I have parked there, and once I was a guest of the Bar-T-5 wagon/diner show. All my experiences were amazing. Finally however a friend convinced me (simply saying "Wanna go hike Cache Creek?") So we had a fun short hike with a friend. Malory Payne and her niece Shelby, old time family friends. The Hike is a steep one, a favorite for mountain bikers, and dog owners alike. We took all the left hand forks, cant exactly recall what they were. Will have to bookmark this trail for our training. Yes folks steep uphill climbs are how we are training for the girls first backpacking trip :) this hike was amazingly fun and I cannot wait for another chance to go hiking with two of my favorite friends.![]() |

For our anniversary Kevin and I were lucky enough to receive an invitation to my Uncle Colin and his new bride Gina's wedding. the trip was fabulous, the weather was a pleasing break from the dreary and wet conditions of home. This was our 'adults-only- trip of the year and it was such an adventure. we hiked between freeways, saw the sights of San Diego and even made it down to Pacific Beach. The Gas Lamp district was a fun night exploring a big city, and Balboa Park was awe-inspiring, from the gardens, to the artist district, and lets not forget the San Diego Zoo!! Which thankfully held up to my life long dreams, the San Diego Sea World however left me feeling sad, disgusted and downright ashamed to be a part of humanity. Why the upset over caged whales versus gorillas? See for yourself, the Zoo and the Aquariums are two very different attractions. Anyway the long weekend ended just in time. being from a climate that barely if ever reaches 90 the hot, stuffy, crowed city was soon becoming too much to bare. Overall and excellent chance to see family, and discover the gems of a new city. ![]() |

Though it may not appear as if we have had any adventures this summer based on the many blog posts, in actuality we have been busier than ever, hence the lack of posts. So instead of detailed run downs of each and every excursions I will post some pics and the jist of the exploration. the important stuff like, distance, time, the enjoyment level, and of course pictures. As of now we are winding down our summer time fun and preparing for school. Which to us Dillon's of course means jamming in as many hikes as possible. We have even set a lofty goal to end the summer on, and for the first time ever are 'training' for a hike. Well I am going to upload all the photos and get on with it, so yes be prepared for an onslaught of posts, after all we have six weeks to cover :)
On our first attempt to the lake, when we took the left fork, we ended up seeing many of the back roads. We went up the side of the mountain, where we had a mid-June snowball fight before heading back down. Then following the 'main' road along the creek. Eventually on this road, we reached a fork, straight ahead was Cottonwood Creek, left was Fish creek. Both trails were washed out. The Cottonwood creek road seemed to be a river as far as we could see and the Fish Creek path seemed more passable. We headed right through the washed out fork and soon were storming our way through a creek about 2 feet deep and 100 yards long. The road dried out and was mellow until it came to another river crossing, I couldn't really tell if this was an actual river crossing or just a flooded area. Either way it was as far as we could go. We parked the truck and got out to explore. The river had created many 'islands' and we tossed down a few logs for a makeshift bridge to one of these 'islands' where the kids found a sandbar and we had a campfire and lunch. Turkey sandwiches, Grapes, Water. We stayed and explored the island which was abruptly cut off by a small two foot waterfall. After playing in a slow stream of the river and waiting for the campfire to die, we washed up and loaded back in the truck.
We returned to the original fork, and this time took the right hand path, after we followed it down a ways there was a sign that said '1 Soda Lake' (where the t is) Follow this road down about a mile and tada Soda Lake.
We got out and began to hike a small trail that lead to the left of the lake, it wound over a few small trickles of streams, and through a campsite before curving through the 'wetlands of the lake. I'm sure if we walked a bit further up we could have crossed a small stream, instead kevin hauled the kids through calf deep water and I trudged along after them. We walked along the lake edge until we came upon a quick sand beach, which we played on for a bit before climbing up the slide that had caused the beach. After the slide climb we headed back to the car and towards home.
