Shoshone Lake was our very late beginning of the season hike in Yellowstone. We wanted to do something close to the south gate and had originally intended to go to Heart Lake. That trail was closed due to bear activity so we went up the road and came to a stop at the Shoshone Lake trail head. It was a nice long hike, and the frigid lake was a nice way to cool off and re-energize for the trek back.
